The Chase Freedom card was the first credit card I ever had in the US. It is still in my wallet right now. I mostly use the card as part of their quarterly bonuses. During each quarter, they have rotating categories that earn you 5x points up to your first $1,500.
Ordinarily, you earn 1x points/cashback on all your purchases with no limit. The great thing about this card is also that it has no annual fee. Just a few days ago, I posted about hotel promotions and this is no different in terms of being able to earn some additional rewards.
Combine your points across Chase cards
Most people use the Freedom as a cash back card, so earning an additional 4% cashback a quarter is a nice bonus. I, however, use the card in conjunction with my Sapphire Reserve card. Chase lets you freely combine points between cards. I transfer my points to the Sapphire Reserve. That way, I am either able to redeem it for 1.5 cent per point in their travel portal or are able to transfer it to their travel partners like United. Personally, I usually transfer points to travel partners like United, Hyatt or Singapore Airlines, as I am able to get more value out my points that way.
Registration now open for Q4 categories
Registration for this is very easy. Just follow this link and enter your last name, last four digits of your card and your ZIP code. With that, you will be all registered.
The categories should be helpful for many people. Department stores are always a welcome sight for Christmas shopping. Wholesale clubs are for many people a way of life and earn more points this way. Chase Pay, while not as widely accepted as Apple Pay can come in handy as well. See what merchants are participating with Chase Pay here.
Summary
Earning extra points is always a welcome sight and Chase has some interesting categories here. Being able to combine my Freedom points into full Ultimate Rewards points, also helps me to earn additional value out of each point. While I won’t be going out of my way to ensure I hit the $1,500 spending maximum, I will for sure use my Freedom card when possible.
