Call me a sucker for potential extra points, but I will certainly register for bonus offers. Last year, United came out with what they call Mile Play. We participated earlier this year and Elli actually hit her bonus and earned an extra 5,800 miles. This morning I received a new email to register.
As I have mentioned before, in these situations I wouldn’t go out of my way to book United flights or pay extra for it. But, if it aligns with trips we are taking anyway – personal or business – this is certainly a nice way to earn some extra miles. As a Chicago hub, United is our preferred airline, so these miles carry extra value to us.
With most promotions like this there are some terms that you should be aware of. This particular offer is highly personalized. My guess this is based on your past flying with United. Here is the promotion link to check if you are eligible.
Our promotional offers
Alex’s offer: Book and take two flights by January 31st, with each purchased fare being at least $275 per trip to earn an additional 2,500 miles
Elli’s offer: Book and take four flights by January 31st, with each purchased fare being at least $225 per trip to earn an additional 2,700 miles.
Terms and Conditions are key to ensure you hit this
Previously booked flights are not eligible. The fare only includes the actual ticket fare and not any government-imposed taxes and surcharges, which is an important point. You can find the full terms and conditions on the registration site.
Based on some upcoming business travel I think I might be able to hit my offer threshold, depending on flight prices.
Summary:
I love these kind of random promotions that can boost our mileage balances. While we won’t go out of our way to make this happen, we will certainly take the miles if we do. Registering for this is simple and then I can basically forget about it, so I love that part as well.
